Many struggles occur because we jump into things too quickly. Take some time to slow down and analyze decisions before acting on them.

🧐 Bite-Size Therapy: CBT Without a Therapist

Cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT, helps change your negative thoughts patterns, perspectives, and behaviors into healthier ones. It's the most common form of therapy used by mental health professionals, but did you know you can do it on your own?

That's perfect for those times when you don't feel like talking to anyone, even a therapist.

CBT is often used for addiction because it can help us with underlying issues like anxiety or depression while also redirecting our cravings, identifying our triggers, and encouraging coping tools that can prepare us for the roughest of days.

So how can you do it without a therapist?

Identify common negative self-talk: While it will take some time and practice, if you start to examine your thoughts, you will begin to see patterns. You may recognize that you put yourself down with thoughts like, "I will never be able to do this" or "I'm just an addict, nobody will ever see me differently."

Examine evidence against negative thoughts: After identifying these thoughts, you prepare yourself to address the irrationality behind them. Look for evidence that the thought is untrue including everything you've done well that refutes the negativity.

Transform negativity into positivity: Reframe your negativity into positive self-talk. Instead of telling yourself you always fail, tell yourself everybody fails sometimes, but you are doing well in a lot of ways. Remind yourself of your successes....write them down on post-it notes around your home and work if it helps you remember to think positively.

A woman wants to enter an exclusive 12-step meeting but doesn't know the password. The thing is, she really needs help overcoming her cravings, so she decides to watch others so she can steal the password.

A man walks up to the door and the sponsor says 12, the man says 6 and enters. Then, another man walks up and the sponsor says 6, the man says 3 and enters. Thinking she has figured it out, the woman walks up to the door and the sponsor says 10. She says 5, but he doesn't let her enter.

What should she have said instead to get into the exclusive meeting?
