🎯Rapper Macklemore's Journey to Sobriety: From Addiction to Redemption!

Macklemore, the famous singer, recently opened up about his journey to overcome addiction. He described addiction as being like an allergy, where after having a small amount of alcohol or drugs, he couldn't stop himself from wanting more. Macklemore admitted that his addiction started at a young age when he was only 14 and had his first shot of alcohol, which quickly turned into 12 shots in just half an hour.

The singer realized the root of his addiction after finding a community of men who had experienced sexual trauma. He then knew that he had to choose between life or death to begin his recovery journey. Macklemore's wife, Tricia Davis, was a huge support system for him during his sobriety journey.

After relapsing during the pandemic, Macklemore is now celebrating over two years of sobriety. He acknowledges that there is still much work to be done, but he feels like he is just at the start of a new journey.

🎯Scientists Identify Shared Genes in Addiction Disorders - A Step Closer to Personalized Interventions!

Scientists have found common genetic markers across addiction disorders, according to a new study published in Nature Mental Health. By combing through genomic data of over one million people, the researchers identified genes commonly inherited across addiction disorders, regardless of the substance being used. This dataset may help reveal new treatment targets across multiple substance use disorders, including for people diagnosed with more than one. The findings also reinforce the role of the dopamine system in addiction. In 2021, more than 46 million people in the United States aged 12 or older had at least one substance use disorder, and only 6.3% had received treatment. People who use drugs are facing an increasingly dangerous drug supply, often tainted with fentanyl. Drug use and addiction represent a public health crisis characterized by high social, emotional, and financial costs to families, communities, and society. The genomic pattern identified was a more sensitive predictor of having two or more substance use disorders at once, and predicted higher risk of mental and physical illness, including psychiatric disorders, suicidal behavior, respiratory disease, heart disease, and chronic pain conditions.
