π§ Bite-Size Therapy: What to Do After Relapse...π€·ββοΈ
Unfortunately, relapses are just a part of recovery. While it's definitely better to avoid them altogether, they are by no means the end of your sober journey...in fact, it could be the beginning of lifelong sobriety.
While a relapse can make you feel disappointed & you may feel like a failure, it's better to look at it as a setback & a stepping stone to better progress. That being said, what are you actually supposed to do after a relapse?

Here are some tips to help you after a relapse (or anytime during recovery!):
Accept that it happened & that it's okay...that you aren't a failure & your recovery continues just like it did before you relapsed.
Take Responsibility. You made a mistake, just like everybody else in the world. Use this as motivation to do better from now on.
Take Action to prevent another relapse. This could be by getting rid of paraphernalia, cutting off toxic friends, going to 12-step meetings, or anything else that helps you DO ANYTHING to get back on the right path.
Reach out to your support system whoever that may be. Don't have one? Feel free to lean on your friends at the DailyFix. Send us an email if you need to!
Learn from experience by identifying triggers, developing a plan to avoid relapse in the future, & embracing your sober lifestyle with healthier reactions & behaviors. Use the journal prompt below to get started!

Sometimes the roller coaster has to go to the bottom to climb to the top again! Stay positive to handle all the bumps along the way.

Write down your main triggers. List them without thinking too much so you can identify potential triggers without judgment.
How can you avoid these triggers? What can you do when you can't avoid them? Write down a step-by-step plan for what you can do to avoid relapse when you inevitably encounter triggers.
Bonus: Write down why you think those are your triggers. Doing this can help you examine patterns that can help you prepare.
