 Daily Motivation: What Losers?

There are no losers in recovery because recovery takes effort. There are missteps, slip-ups, relapses, and challenges, but there are no losers.

🧐 Let's Learn: Recovery Doesn't Have a Finish Line

If you've ever been on social media...or I guess I should say "when" you've been on social media, you may have seen people humble bragging about their sobriety.

You may have even encountered this at 12 step meetings...but the truth is...Recovery isn't a competition. Recovery isn't a race. Recovery doesn't have a finish line.

Sure, you are probably proud of your accomplishments, and you should be! The problem is that it can be very easy to start looking at others and comparing your progress to theirs. But their journeys don't affect your own journey.

All of us are trying to get or stay sober...we're all on the same team. Instead of beating yourself up for cravings, relapses, or the challenges of daily life in recovery, try to remember what teammates are for. Lean on your team of friends and family when you stumble

Furthermore, since it's not a competition, that means you can make your own rules and do things your own way. Not everybody succeeds using the same resources, path, or plan. Discover what works for you and what hinders your progress. Adjust your strategy as needed and compete only against one thing: alcohol and drugs.

Once you realize that you can make up your own rules...that there isn't a single path toward sobriety that everyone must take... then you can create the path that works for you. When you stop comparing your journey to others who have been sober for longer, seem to be doing better, or appear to have the world on a string, you can finally focus on what's important: yourself.

If the path you're currently on isn't working, consider reaching out to a Recovery Coach. These are people with lived experience, who have been certified to help you find YOUR path. They will share all the different options and help guide you toward the ones that might work for you.

🧘🏽 DAILY MEDITATION πŸ§˜πŸ½

Sometimes I don't realize that I gossiped about someone until the end of the day, when I take an inventory of the day's activities, and then, my gossiping appears like a blemish in my beautiful day.

How could I have said something like that? Gossip shows its ugly head during a coffee break or lunch with business associates, or I may gossip during the evening, when I'm tired from the day's activities, and feel justified in bolstering my ego at the expense of someone else.

Character defects like gossip sneak into my life when I am not making a constant effort to work the Twelve Steps of recovery. I need to remind myself that my uniqueness is the blessing of my being, and that applies equally to everyone who crosses my path in life's journey.

Today the only inventory I need to take is my own. I'll leave judgment of others to the Final Judge.
