☔️ Daily Motivation: Have Faith

Pic of a storm cloud at sunset with the following story, "When a small town was in a bad drought, the residents decided to come together and pray for rain. The day for prayer came, and everybody showed up, but only one person brought an umbrella. That is faith."

Would you show up with an umbrella?

🤫Let's Learn: Anonymity

Recovering anonymously can be a bit like walking a fine line. When to speak on something, when to say hello to a fellow member of recovery, when to pretend you don’t know someone…it can be tricky. It can be solved by remembering a few key points, but if you ever find yourself unsure, it’s probably best to keep quiet.

Recovering with anonymity is a concept first introduced by Alcoholics Anonymous nearly 75 years ago. Co-founder Bill Wilson expressed the importance of remaining anonymous in 1939 in the printing of the First Edition of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the principle has since spread into several other self-help recovery groups such as Narcotics Anonymous & Celebrate Recovery. Anonymity is often referred to as the single greatest protection a recovery Fellowship has.

Some members of these recovery groups are very open to celebrating & sharing their recovery with the world. Others are more reserved and prefer to keep their membership or attendance to themselves rather than sharing the knowledge with their friends, family, work, or social circles. There are a number of reasons to keep such information quiet but it’s a personal choice that should always be respected at all costs.

Bill W. once said, “It should be the privilege of each individual A.A. to cloak himself with as much personal anonymity as he desires. His fellow A.A.s should respect his wishes and help guard whatever status he wants to assume.”

Anonymity is intended to protect all group members and secure the understanding that everyone in attendance is of equal value. This means in a meeting the lawyer is exactly the same as the felon and vice versa. The janitor holds the same importance as the head of a big company.

The most important thing to remember is that it’s a personal choice for each member to determine what they want to share with the world and it’s NEVER okay to break someone else’s anonymity.

And if you ever have questions about anonymity in recovery, ask someone! A member of your local recovery group will be happy to help you understand more if you have questions regarding what is & isn’t appropriate. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, shoot us an email and we’ll help you find the resources you need to answer your questions.

🧘🏽 DAILY MEDITATION 🧘🏽

Looking back on things can sometimes be difficult. But it isn’t too difficult to recognize that everything you’ve been through was for some purpose, even if it’s not easy to understand what that purpose is.

Mosaic pictures are made by placing seemingly unrelated pieces together in a way that forms something grander than any one piece alone. Everything that has happened to you is like one small piece in the mosaic. And each piece fits into the bigger mosaic of your life. It makes up who you are and it has been designed by a Higher Power.

Reflect on this, pray and remember you need not see the whole design of your life, but instead, you must put trust in the Designer of it.

If you want to join a private group that reflects on these meditations, reply back to this email and we'll put you on the list!
