✒ Self-Care Hacks ✒
Good morning, sober queens! 🎬✨
Let’s talk about a self-care tactic that’s cheaper than therapy, takes less time than blow-drying your hair, and has the power to stop a relapse in its tracks: Play the Tape Forward.
Here’s how it works: the next time your brain whispers, “Just one glass of wine won’t hurt,” don’t engage in a debate. Instead, hit mental fast-forward. Picture how you’ll feel tomorrow. You know the scene—headache, regret, bloating like a human croissant, and texting your sponsor with, “Soooo... I made a choice.” 🙃
This is your internal Netflix. And spoiler alert: it’s a horror movie. “Just one” rarely stays just one. And that future-you? She’s begging you not to press play.
Science backs this up! 🧠 A study published in Addiction Research & Theory found that future-oriented thinking (a.k.a. imagining future consequences) actually reduces impulsivity and risky behaviors—like drinking when you're trying not to. When you “play the tape forward,” you're activating the prefrontal cortex, the wise CEO part of your brain that says, “We’ve seen this episode. Let’s not rewatch the meltdown.”
So next time you're tempted, grab popcorn (the emotional support kind), sit down, and mentally screen the sequel to “Just One Drink.”
Spoiler: You already know how it ends—and it's not worth it.
Stay sober, stay weird, and keep choosing peace over pieces. 💪💃
Tomorrow-you will be sending you air hugs and saying, “Thanks, legend.”
