ā Self-Care Hacks ā
Letās face it: recovery isnāt all sunshine and rainbowsāitās more like a cloudy hike where you occasionally trip over roots (aka life). But what if you turned that hike into an actual treasure hunt? Enter the āOutdoor Treasure Huntā sober hack. Itās part therapy, part cardio, and 100% fun.
Hereās how it works: Write some uplifting notes for yourself or a sober buddy. Hide them in a park under benches, in tree hollows, or taped to the back of a suspiciously large rock. Then go on a treasure hunt to find them. Bonus points if you add ridiculous drawings of squirrels in motivational poses.
Why does this work? For starters, it gets you outside, and science says thatās a win. A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives found that spending just two hours a week in nature boosts mental and physical health. Plus, the act of walking around searching for hidden treasures releases dopamineāthe feel-good brain chemical weāre all chasing, but in a healthy way this time.
Then thereās the element of surprise. When you find a note that says, āHey, future you, keep being awesome!ā or āYouāre stronger than the Wi-Fi at a coffee shop,ā itās like a mini-celebration. It breaks up the monotony of the day and reminds you that joy can be homemadeāand sometimes buried under a pile of leaves.
So grab a pen, a notepad, and your best hiding skills. Whether youāre leaving notes for yourself or a sober sidekick, this treasure hunt is the ultimate reminder: sobriety isnāt just about survivingāitās about thriving with a little mischief along the way.
