🌊Daily Motivation: Remember Worth It

💯 Let's Learn: 2 Truths or 1 Lie.
For many, an addiction requires a ton of lying. You lie about getting, using, and hiding your drug or alcohol of choice. By the time you are in deep, you lie so well, you’re likely lying to yourself too.

Lying so much can cause you to not like yourself a whole lot. The more you lie, the less you like yourself, which makes you want to escape the feelings, which causes you to use, which leads to more lying. It’s a vicious cycle.
Here are some tips tricks and tools to help you cut out the lies and be more honest with yourself and others:
Admit when it happens. As soon as it happens. Sometimes it’s hard to own up to bad behavior but it will help break the habit.
Build your honesty muscles. The more you do it the easier it will come to you. Like sit-ups. Except I hate sit-ups.
Keep a Journal. It's a useful way to track your behavior and give you an honest look into the things you do and perhaps what caused you to want to lie in the moment. You’re also less likely to be deluded into thinking a lie is a right choice when you see it written down in front of you.
Quit playing down the lie. Even little white lies are just as dishonest as the big ones. Aim for complete honesty, but also recognize this is a trait that EVERYONE is working on. Don’t beat yourself up, but hold yourself accountable for your actions.

None of us are perfect. But we’re all made better through the work we put into our recovery. One of the key components to getting better is to actively try to be a better version of yourself. This means you have to stop lying to everyone. Especially yourself.
📚 Read a Good Book 📚
Personally, I read a lot in my early days of recovery. I had nothing but time to fill as I completely changed my entire way of life. Now I read less due to time but any chance I get to sit down with a great book is a good day in the end.
When picking a new book, I always count on the reviews to lead me in the right direction. Here's a review that quickly helped me decide to add Addict in the Family to my cart.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Addict in the Family is a great read for both the family as well as the substance user. For the family, it confirms everything we feel and how we unknowingly continue to enable the user. It gives you help on how to encourage the user to seek the help they need while not enabling and giving them the love and support they need. I thought I understood my user, but this book filled in all the missing pieces and helped me to really get it.
For the user, it helps them to understand what the family really goes through and how their substance use really affects the ones they love and the family dynamics. I leave mine in the bathroom or on the coffee table and often I see it moved or placed differently....he reads it a little at a time when he visits....and sometimes we have open discussions about something he has read in the book.
