π― Daily Motivation: Prioritize Self Care
It's not selfish to care about yourself, it's necessary. Plus, if you take care of yourself, everything else becomes much easier including taking care of others.
π§ Let's Learn: Replacing One Addiction...
You're finally sober...YAY!
But suddenly, you realize you are eating more, working excessively, or shopping constantly (hey, what's wrong with that?!). Unfortunately, it's quite common to replace your previous addiction with a new one...and while your new habit may not seem too bad, it can still have lots of consequences for your well-being.

Not only that, but it keeps you stuck in a cycle of addiction that you want to escape. So what can you do to avoid replacing one addiction with another?
The first thing is recognizing that your new habits are unhealthy. While exercising, working, and other replacement behaviors can be healthy, it's important to recognize when they become excessive or compulsive. You may start to fixate on the activity, change your routine to do it more, or neglect relationships because of it.
The next step is to find balance. If it's something wholly unhealthy, like gambling or a different substance, then the balance may be eliminating it from your life entirely. For healthier activities, like exercising or sex, balance might simply require limitations.
Finally, there is probably a reason you turned to another habit when you got sober. It could be anxiety, grief, shame, boredom, or many other things that drive you toward unhealthy habits. It's probably time to address those underlying issues instead of just the addictive symptoms.
You know yourself better than anyone, but this might require some introspection. You can try journaling, mindfulness meditation, or therapy to help you address those causes to progress to a healthier, happier place.

βRecovery Riddleβ
I can help you stay sober, or I can cause you to relapse. Babies have me, but they don't have as much of me as you do. I am clouded by emotion, addiction, and delusion. You can't stop me, but you can control me. What am I?
