๐Ÿง Daily Dose of Therapy: Saving Grace

Sometimes the clarity that accompanies sobriety can be a double-edged sword. Over time the fog of addiction lifts and you can see the world around you as it truly is. This can feel like both a blessing and a curse.

All of a sudden, the sun seems to shine a little brighter, and colors maybe aren't so dull. You realize how much your little niece is talking. And when did your younger brother suddenly become taller than you?

Unfortunately, however, this often comes with incredibly clear and sometimes vivid realizations of who you were before recovery. And this image of your previous self does not always align with who you are trying to become.

But the thing is, in developing a closer relationship with your Higher Power, you'll come to learn about and accept God's grace. (The God of your understanding that is) Your Higher Power will offer you unmerited favor; even if you feel you are undeserving, He will always love you. Having God's grace means that even in all the times you've lied, stolen, & cheated, He always loved you. Whenever you have relapsed or felt unworthy or unloveable, God always loves you.

So if our Higher Power is willing to see us in our entirety- for who we've been and the person we are trying to become- and still loves us, why do so many of us struggle with giving ourselves that same grace that our Higher Power shows us?

A sponsor once told me that if you don't show yourself some grace and let go of tearing yourself down and thinking you're not worthy of good things happening to you, that it's like you are trying to take control back from the God of your understanding.

Accept that you deserve the promotion, or that you are worthy of love, or whatever may be holding you back. Stop beating yourself up over who you may have been at one point, and instead focus on the person you are trying to become.

When you find yourself wallowing in thoughts over the person that you once were, take time to communicate with your Higher Power and just remember to...

words say give yourself some grace dammit

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝ DAILY MEDITATION ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝ

It's funny how strangers meeting anonymously all across the world can be so different and yet so similar at the same time. A prime example of this is how often we, as a recovering society, have found relevancy in another's story or share. When a stranger details their own feelings of thankfulness at the realization that the entire world does not indeed revolve around them, how many of us have then thought, 'Wow! Thank God I am no longer at the center of the universe!'

Not only is it okay, but it is actually beneficial to accept that you are only one among many others and there is a Power far greater than you that is in control. When you come to rely and depend on that Higher Power, you can trust that your strength and ability to do the right thing will follow with the full weight of the universe behind it. You will no longer have to depend on yourself entirely. Instead, you will find that you can face ANYTHING with the grace of your Higher Power.

It is suggested to keep close contact with your Higher Power in order to benefit from it. One way to do this is with daily quiet communication. Prayers for grace, journaling, and consistency with your Higher Power can always help remind you of the role you play within a much bigger picture.

Remember, a jigsaw puzzle needs every piece to be complete.
