πŸ˜€ Daily Motivation: You Have Reasons to Smile

No matter how down you are, what problems you have, or what's going on in your life, you have reasons to smile!

🧐 Let's Learn: Laughter is the Best Medicine

We've all had those moments with friends or family where someone starts to laugh....then someone else, and before you know it everybody is laughing hysterically. In some cases, you may be cackling without even knowing why.

That's because laughter is contagious!

Studies show that what triggers laughter more than a hilarious joke is another person. That's because laughter is a way to strengthen bonds with other people without using words. It's a communication tool that predates language, at least according to some experts.

But it's not just a way to build relationships...it's a way to make us feel better. It releases endorphins, boosts the immune system, improves heart health, and stimulates oxygen intake. It can even reduce stress, ease tension, decrease anxiety, relieve depression, increase productivity, and fight cravings. Don't believe me? When was the last time you felt sad while you were laughing?

Okay, so maybe it is possible to be sad and laugh at the same time, but being sad and laughing is certainly better than being sad and not laughing, right? Plus, these benefits to your health and mood can be long-term, so it's about time you started laughing more.

So how can you do that (other than reading the DailyFix each day ;)?

πŸ˜‚ Fake laugh until you real laugh! Trust me it works...you may look like a lunatic, but if your fake laugh for long enough, you will soon burst into real laughter. Even if you don't fake laughing can also have some great benefits!

πŸ˜‚ Embrace your inner child! Children laugh a lot, but as adults sometimes we get too focused on the seriousness of life and forget to laugh at the absurdity of the day. Start acting childish with goofy words, playful acting, and lame jokes. If it doesn't work, maybe spend a few minutes with a child to cheer up!

πŸ˜‚ Remember something funny and share it with a friend! This could be something from your past that you found hilarious or just anything that cracks the smile. The hardest part is getting started, but once the laughter starts, it often flows until your jaw hurts.

πŸ˜‚ Spend time with other people! As I mentioned earlier, laughing is social, so if you isolate yourself, it may be harder to start chuckling. Spend time with people and you may find that it's easier to laugh, giggle, or even howl.

🧘🏽 DAILY MEDITATION 🧘🏽

Focusing on what others are doing can provide momentary relief from having to take a look at ourselves. But one of the secrets of success in our fellowship is making sure our own house is in order. So what does "setting our house in order" mean, anyway?

It means we work the steps, allowing us to look at our role in our relationships with others. When we have a problem with someone, we can take our own inventory to find out what our part in the problem has been. With the help of our sponsor, we strive to set it right.

Then, each day, we continue taking our inventory to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future. It's pretty simple. We treat others as we would like others to treat us. We promptly make amends when we owe them. And when we turn our lives over to the care of our Higher Power on a daily basis, we can start to avoid running on the self-will so characteristic of our active addiction.

Guided by a Power that seeks the best for everyone, our relationships with others will surely improve.
