π§ Let's Learn: How to Deal With Boredom
One of the problems I struggled with, particularly in the early days of recovery, was boredom. Ever since I was a kid, I've gotten bored easily, but for so long those days were filled with addictive behaviors whether it was drinking and using or searching for ways to drink and use.
So, when I got clean, like many others, boredom dominated my mind.

But I've learned some things you can do to deal with my boredom and I hope they help you too!
Go for a Walk: This is my absolute go-to when bored... just a quick stroll around the block can give me a burst of dopamine, enhance my mood, and help me think of even more stuff to do with my time!
Cook or Bake: A lot of people start searching the fridge and pantry when bored (as the meme above comedically implies), but that's not very productive...or healthy. So why not spend the time preparing a meal instead?
Live Healthy: One of the reasons you feel bored is that after addiction, your neurotransmitters are out of whack and don't reward you for the things you should find fun. Try to replenish those important brain chemicals by eating healthy, getting plenty of exercise, and sleeping 7 hours a night.
Start Doing Anything: I've found that I'm often bored because I lack motivation...so I sit there feeling bored and doing nothing about it. Instead, do something, do anything productive just to get started. You may find it's MUCH less boring than you expected.
