π‘ Daily Motivation: Your Problems May Not Be So Bad After All
When we start ruminating and worrying about our own problems, sometimes all it takes is a shift in perspective.
π§ Let's Learn: Complacency is the Enemy of Sobriety
If you're anything like me, the beginning of your recovery journey (well, at least the time sobriety actually stuck around for more than a couple days) was full of enthusiasm, hope, and joy. You were happy to be getting better...you were proud of your accomplishments...and you were excited to keep taking it one day at a time.
But it's easy to slip into complacency and start being smug about our sobriety, taking our progress for granted. We may even become arrogant and think that no trigger will push us toward relapse. We may skip meetings and lose motivation.

But that type of complacency can be risky. It can put us into a false sense of security or even cause us to forget we had a problem to begin with. Once we let our guard down, it becomes so much easier to relapse. But the good news is that complacency is a warning sign that is telling you to take action, before you fall off the wagon.
So, how do you avoid complacency? It all starts with your mindset. By shifting your perspective to confidence and gratitude, you can acknowledge your achievements and all the good things in your life, without taking them for granted.
I've found one of the best ways to do this is to keep a journal. Keep track of your commitment and all the effort you put into recovery. You may be surprised how much you do on a daily basis to make sure you are staying clean and sober.
In your journal, or just mentally if you prefer, try thinking of something that you are grateful for every day. This will help change your view and show you all the reasons you have to avoid complacency and keep putting in the time and effort required to maintain your sobriety... even on those days when you feel like giving up.
Because the truth is...you have the rest of your life to live. Recovery isn't the final objective, it's an ongoing process on the way to a better, happier, healthier life.

Chances are, if you're at a point of complacency, you've learned a thing or two about recovery. Now may be the time to consider helping others on their journey, which, in turn, helps you too! By serving others, you stay busy in recovery and remind yourself of the pain and suffering you've escaped.
Plus, it gives you the opportunity to take the next step in your own journey... and it gives you one more thing to be grateful for.
