Welcome to a special 12-step meditation: Step 4 - "Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."
Now, I know this might sound a little intimidating, but don't worry - we'll get through it together.
First things first, let's make sure we have everything we need for this step. Grab a pen and a notebook (or if you're feeling really ambitious, a spreadsheet). Got it? Great.
Now, let's start by listing out all of our character defects. Don't hold back - be honest with yourself. Is there a little voice inside your head that tells you to procrastinate on your chores? Write it down. Do you have a tendency to overindulge in your favorite vice? Yup, that goes on the list too.
But here's the fun part - for each character defect, we get to brainstorm a ridiculous solution. For example, let's say one of your defects is that you have a hard time saying no to unreasonable requests. Your ridiculous solution could be to start carrying around a giant foam finger that says "NO" on it, and whenever someone asks you to do something you don't want to do, you can just hold up the foam finger and say "Sorry, the foam finger says no."
See? This step doesn't have to be all serious business. In fact, the more ridiculous your solutions, the more likely you are to remember them (and have a good laugh in the process).
So go ahead, embrace your inner ridiculousness and make that fearless moral inventory. You got this!
