🎧💬A Pocket-Sized Sober Coach? Meet the Magic of Daily Pep Talks from...You!

✒ Self-Care Hacks ✒

Let’s talk about one of the most underrated, wildly low-budget self-care tools on the market: voice memos. Specifically, Daily Voice Memos to Future You. Yes, you. But like, tomorrow’s you. Or Tuesday’s you. The one who might wake up wondering if anyone really has their back. Spoiler: you do. Literally.

Every morning (or evening, or mid-toilet break), record a 1-minute pep talk. Nothing fancy—just you reminding yourself that cravings are temporary, you’re a total badass, and no, we are not texting our ex today. It’s like having a sober coach on demand... who weirdly sounds like you. Because it is you. Cue the Inception music.

Here’s the science-y part: recording and listening to self-affirmations activates the brain’s reward systems, particularly the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (Falk et al., 2015). Translation: encouraging words from you to you can literally give your brain a boost of the feel-goods, lowering anxiety and helping you stay committed to your goals. Who knew your voice was your superpower?

Plus, on tough days, these voice memos become tiny time capsules of your own strength. You get to hear past-you rooting for current-you, and suddenly the “I can’t do this” becomes “Okay, but I already have.”

So go ahead—record that voice memo. Say the corny thing. Tell Future You they’re killing it. Because when life gets shaky, it helps to have someone whispering, “You’ve got this.” Especially when that someone is sober, sassy, and happens to be… you.

What would Future You love to hear tomorrow?
